Ladies of Kabul
Reflecting on the women living in Afghanistan, life under veil and annonymosity.
Although burkas give a very anonymous and impersonal feeling about the lady wearing it. My intention from this experiment as an artist ist to observe the reaction of the viewer to the subject I'm dealing with here and collect personal experience from the participant in this social experiment. The ladies under the Burkas were from different cultures, backgrounds and belief. Giving some characteristic to the ladies under the burka with the jewelry and with their own birds in another case.
It’s interesting to shoot these fashion pieces or symbol as a contrast to what we usually see in fashion world. I used burkas in different colors, body language, interaction and used them as a medium to communicate with and to produce a feeling of confusion and mixed feeling between the beauty of the visual and the known conflicting ideology that reflects lack of freedom and suppressed emotions. The intention is not essentially provokating the viewer but to produce a creative narration and a parallel almost fictional storyline of reality.
